When the bowl is moved, or accelerated, the marble inside will roll (accelerate) along the bottom and sides of the bowl. With every step forward, the wearer of the watch (bowl) is accelerating forward. I'm not very tech-y, so I was a bit nervous ordering this watch/pedometer after reading reviews about how hard it was to set up. I followed a reviewer's advice skipped the written instructions, going straight for the online tutorial. Piece of cake! I love my watch love counting my steps. Some advice for the next set of buyers: If you like to bike, it won't register your "steps" while biking, so attach it to your shoelaces. Worked accurately like a charm!

Overall this watch has been okay. The whole reason I purchased it was for calculating distance when I ran. This was the least pricey out of the watches I was looking at. It seemed to be accurate for the first month I had it but I have noticed that it has been giving me .2 more miles than I actually ran. I am not sure if this addition will only begin to get greater but only time will tell. The other features like the pedometer, and the calorie counter are very good though.

I walk and hike and swim, and the pedometer and other functions work really well, but after two sessions in the pool the watch display no longer functions. I'm hoping to be able to exchange it.

I just love my new watch! I love that I can set the timer to start the pedo, as i know that from 5:30 am to 7:20 am, I will be sitting and will not need it to count my arm movement. As with anything there are faults, it will count any arm movement not connected to walking. i forgot on my last watch i bought from Tech and I once "walked" 5,000 steps taking notes in a meeting. Set up can be annoying but once it's set up you never have to do it again.
