No one who knows me would mistake me for a practicing Christian but... December 26, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
No one who knows me even fleetingly would mistake me for a practicing Christian, so as someone who is very into music (composes/DJs) but picks up almost no gospel on average, saying that I found this CD not only worth buying but recommending to general audiences is a big deal.br /br /This CD is well-produced, the songs are very strong and Sheard can sing rings around a LOT of people. The thing that compelled me to pick it up was how contemporary and fresh it sounded. She could have a number of these songs on mainstream radio, and she does so without losing her purpose and going off mission to sell it without the God garnish. The music is Grammy-ready, and could have easily been about the same junk that's all over the radio now. Sheard gives us an album that confronts what not only do-gooders are sick of, but people who listen to the radio are sick of too: bad music. If Beyonce made a gospel record, it'd come close to this (though Sheard would likely come out on top because, you know, gospel isn't just a flavor for her).br /br /If you only buy one gospel record this year - or in recent memory - get this one. She'll have you bumping the car at max and smiling about it.
Do you really think KiKi could be more saved? December 26, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This young woman knows what her fans like, knows what her Aunt Twinkie expects and KNOWS the Lord. All tracks are a wonder and guess what, if More black siblings placed this much emphasis on Christ and pleasing Him through Music, 95% of Black youth would all be driven to confess Christ as their Savior. I know the Japanese bros. and sis. ate this up!
A voice of her own December 16, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
She follows a wonderful legacy of women in the gospel music arena and now she has a voice of her own. You can hear her creativity and youthfulness in the songs but you still have that Clark family impact in her delivery of the songs. Very much a youth centered album as far as the beats go makes you wana dance
Wow! December 1, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I too share the same sentiments as most of you do about KiKi's new CD. I was kinda surprised to see the first review, because she/he stole my exact words that I expressed to someone else. I was very much pleased and shocked that KiKi didn't go the insinuation route of barely mentioning Jesus as do most contemporary Christian artists these days (Mary Mary Deitrick Haddon were my two utter disappointments for the year). br /br /Kiki's lyrical maturity and spiritual growth are evident on this album (with the exception of the 'boyfriend' one...that's still a little on the pop tart side :O) and I for one am very proud of her (as if I know her personally or something. haha)
First gospel album all year that I just HAD to write a review for... November 20, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Don't get me wrong, traditional music lovers. I love traditional gospel too! But I'm one of those out-the-box gospel music lovers who believes that gospel music doesn't have to be a boring, predictable, beat-less, softie's humdrum of anti-creativity.br /br /Which is why, while I appreciate all kinds of gospel music, I tend to enjoy the non-traditional sounds the most - the ones that don't require a trained ear in churchy music to enjoy. Again, this is not meant to incite or lambast traditionalists; you say "tomato", I say "tomatoe"; everyone's ear for music is different, and mine happens to be more new-generatiion hip-hop/RB, if you will. br /br /That said, I cannot believe how good Miss Kierra's CD is. (Well, I CAN believe it - we always knew she had it in her - but you know what I mean :) I mean, I could sincerely tell a non-churched friend who is into some of these RB artists out here, look, if you like Beyonce or Jazmine or Keri, you will LOVE this CD, as a matter of fact you might even like it better!br /But the powerful thing is, the message of the gospel is clear as crystal, unlike other similar contemporary gospel CDs. Kierra has managed to combined trendy tracks and hot vocals with a bold declaration about Jesus, and she also has something for everyone from die-hard contemporary RB fans like myself to traditional gospel music fans in the vein of something her powerhouse mom would do.br /br /Needless to say, I would highly recommend this album if it's the only contemporary gospel album you get all year. Congrats KIKI on a stunning 3rd album!br /
